Education American prisons do not offer enough education for the inmates being housed in the Penitentiary. The only way for an inmate to receive an associate or any kind of college education Is through mail correspondence. A GED certificate is the only certificate we are allowed to receive in Ohio. Its guys like me who want to further their education but can't afford correspondence, so the only option we have is self education through library books. A really good question is how does the...

Over the next few decades, as one might expect, various rumors floated around the prison system about issues at that facility named Hocking Correctional Facility, one of the latest being various claims of abuse to the older inmates housed there. For the most part being a very s...

Neglect The sunlight hours we receive in max prisons should fluctuate instead we get the same hours everyday all year around. These hours consist of a.m. hours and before 2:30pm; no evening hours .Unlike other max prisons ,the prison lam housed in does not have open and closeable windows; therefore we are only allowed one hour of fresh air and that is during outside rec. After being neglected outside air for so many years, the skin becomes irritated and sometimes remains permanently damaged. ...

O“\/ef p!“aC.&.<::J The Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections allow private companies to over price inmates for food, clothing and electronics. The shoes we buy are made out of the cheapest material such as fake leather and recycled rubber. Electronics such as a 13in television cost $215 while a clip on plastic no name fan cost $20.The food is also an issue, it is over priced pre—cooked and is almost guaranteed to cause health problems. Besides being over priced for the food and...

Jason Lee Bayles Toledo Correctional Institution 2001 East Central Ave Toledo, Ohio 43608 "Psychological Survival" Dear Readers, Hello I'm Jason and I have been in prison since I was 19 years old. I am now 44. I do have regrets that I can never change and that I can never make right. I will always have the burden of being responsible for a robbery that ended with a life being taken. A horrible burden to bear. I do believe that this mistake does not define who I am today. Psycho...

Televison The Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections should consider a better television network for Ohio prisoners. After being locked up in a cell for 20 hours a day for several years basic television becomes a frustration. These institutions have no concern of the sanity of the inmates. Ohio Department of Rehabilitation charge $215 for a 13in Cleartoon t.v. With the money they collect for these small televisions they should give inmates the privilege to e enjoy basic television; such...
